The Journey Begins

Thanks for joining me! For my blog, I have decided to write about all my top places I would like to travel to in the world. Earth has 195 countries. Some people are only able to experience one out of that 195. For me, I could not die without exploring the world. The different kinds of cultures, languages, and people there are in this world amazes me to no end. Part of growing as a person also means broadening your knowledge as an individual. I strongly believe that one of the most important things in life is to experience other cultures. I think it can honestly teach you the most, not only about yourself but about what the world has to offer. Traveling is the best way to get out of your comfort zone and invites you to experience life in different ways. It is something very unique, and there are only so many things we can learn in school. Did you know that scientifically, it is shown that traveling gains more confidence and a great way to develop cultural sensitivity? Ya, me either. To me, traveling is something that blows my mind. Seeing something that you have never seen before, being places that offer great beauty, and just realizing how different other people live their lives. It is astonishing. I want to see the world and make some memories.

Traveling is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.” – Miriam Beard

Turkey

Turkey is a dazzling destination that straddles Asia and Europe. It is packed to the brim with ancient monuments a scenery that never fails to impress. This country has attractions galore, something for everybody. The surreal, swooping rock valleys of Cappadocia are every photographer’s dream. Cliff ridges and hill crests create the perfect canvas. And if you do not feel like hiking for this amazing view, this is one of the world’s top destinations to take a hot air balloon ride. Sounds amazing right? One of Turkey’s most famous natural wonders is there white terraces of Pamukkale. They cascade down the slope looking like and out of place snowfield mixed with the green landscape. They are a true highlight of a Turkey trip. The city of Antalya is a bustling Mediterranean hub that has something for everyone. The two beaches outside of town are a sun heaven in summer and attract many people across Europe. The Antalya Museum is renowned as one of the country’s best, with an astonishing collection of Hellenistic and Roman marble statuary. Another thing to do in Turkey is to visit the Aqua Vega Aquarium. It is one of the largest underwater worlds in Europe. Aqua Vega houses the third largest tunnel aquarium and is a fun place for the entire family. The many exhibits Aqua Vega has to offer allows visitors to explore the underwater world, and get up close and personal with sharks, koi fish, stingrays, and much more. Turkey is a very vibrant country filled with vast history and culture.

Iceland

Iceland is a Nordic island nation and is defined by its dramatic landscape with volcanoes, geysers, hot springs and lava fields. Iceland is a country of sharp contrasts. A place where fire and ice co-exist. Where dark winters are offset by the summer’s midnight sun. A country where there is unlimited culture. If you want to see just how diverse the landscape and features of Iceland are, all you need to do is plan a day trip to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. It is a twin-peaked glacier that sits over a volcano on the peninsula’s tip, surrounded by lava fields and a coastline on three sides. Sounds amazing right? Iceland’s South Coast is one of its most popular sightseeing areas. While its waterfalls, glaciers and volcanos are beautiful, it is the beaches that make it truly unique. Another thing to do in Iceland is enjoy natural treatments at the Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa and possibly Iceland’s most well-known feature. It is rich in minerals and thrives with good bacteria. Another thing to do is to go whale watching in Husavik. There are currently over twenty species of whale, dolphin and porpoise found in Iceland’s waters, making it a top destination for whale watching. An Iceland must see is the Golden Circle. The Golden Circle is one of the most popular sightseeing areas around Iceland. It takes you to the most spectacular features in southwest Iceland: Pingvellir National Park, the Geysir Geothermal Area, Gullfoss Waterfall. Iceland is a beautiful country filled with so much beauty, it is definitely at the top of my list.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is the Netherlands’ capital, known for its artistic heritage, elaborate canal system and narrow houses. Amsterdam is a real cycling city. Getting around by bike is part of the dutch culture. In fact, there are around 800,000 bikes in Amsterdam alone. The best way to get around is by bike. Home to the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, and the Stedelijk Museum, Museumplein is known as the cultural beating heart of Amsterdam. One of the top places to go in Amsterdam is the Anne Frank House. You can reflect on WW II and on the house where Anne Frank and her family hid from the Nazis for two years. It will give you an idea of what life was like for Anne and her family. If you are not into museums, you can take a canal cruise.Amsterdam is known for its many canals. The center of the city is basically a big network of canals, along which you will find Amsterdam’s monumental canal houses. If you are looking for a break from sightseeing and shopping, you can stop at one of the many parks in Amsterdam. You can lay down, play a ball game, and just enjoy the beautiful weather. Amsterdam has always been on my bucket list of places to travel to. It is a city filled with so much culture and history that I want to jump right into. I cannot wait till I get to check this place off of my bucket list!

Santorini

Santorini is is an island in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km (120 mi) southeast of Greeces’s mainland. It is reputed to have the most beautiful sunsets on Earth. One thing to do is to go see a movie at an open air cinema. With the incredible Santorini weather, going to an outdoor movie is a perfect thing to do on a warm evening. Kamari Village located on this popular Greek island boasts one of the best open air cinemas in the world. Looking for some history? No problem! You can explore an archaeological excavation site. The Akrotiri archaeological excavation site features ruins from the city of Akrotiri, which was buried by a volcanic eruption in 1700 B.C. Another thing to do is to eat at a classic Taverna. You just can’t leave Santorini without indulging in a meal at a classic Taverna, a small restaurant serving Greek food. The 9km hike from Fira to Oia has been called the most scenic in Santorini. With the path taking you along the picturesque caldera, you will definitely want to stop for some photo opps. While strolling through the town of Fira, make a stop to get a fish therapy treatment for your feet. Just stick your feet inside the tank and the tiny Garra Rufa fish will gently suck away the dead skin on your toes, leaving them smooth as silk. I would love to be able to experience all of this one day. I feel like being in Santorini is like being in a whole new world.

Bali

Bali is an Indonesian island known for its forested volcanic mountains, iconic rice paddies, beaches and coral reefs. The island is home to religious sites such as cliffside Uluwatu Temple. To the south, the beachside city of Kuta has lively bars, while Seminyak, Sanur and Nusa Dua are popular resort towns. The island is also known for its yoga and meditation retreats. Ulun Danu Temple is a very pretty building is dedicated to the goddess of the lake and is one of the quietest and most serene places on the island. Those looking for something a little different in Bali can head to the area of Tabanan which is covered in rice paddies that sparkle with an emerald hue under the sun. The big draw here is that in addition to checking out the scenery you can also get involved and learn how rice is grown and harvested in Bali. Another thing to do is to hang out with monkeys at the Monkey Forest. The complex is full of over 500 monkeys and three temples. You can walk about the nature based scenery, while taking pictures with or of the monkeys. You can even buy bananas and feed the monkeys. For some real adventure, you can hike to the top of Mount Batur, one of the famous volcanoes in Bali. Bali is filled with all kinds of adventure, and I cannot wait to explore it.

Thailand

Thailand is a Southeast Asian country. It’s known for tropical beaches, royal palaces, ancient ruins and temples displaying figures of Buddha. Set in the heart of Bangkok is the Grand Palace, which is probably the most famous attraction there is. For 150 years the palace was home to the king, his court, and the entire government of Thailand as well as the Royal Mint. With an area of 218,400 sq. meters there is so much to see and do, you will not be disappointed. Koh Phi Phi is a stunning island situated in the province of Krabi. This island is a must visit on any trip to Thailand. After visiting this staggeringly beautiful island no beach will ever feel as beautiful. The island has no roads so you will have to do a fair amount of walking but with everything happening between the two main beaches you will never be far from the hive of activity. One of the things I would be most excited about is visiting an elephant sanctuary. The Phuket Elephant Sanctuary is a final home for retired working elephants, set on 30 acres of lush tropical jungle. Here, you can observe how elephants rehabilitate into forest life after decades of abuse, and experience how incredible the largest land mammal on earth is during a day at this sanctuary. Thailand has so much culture to offer and I plan on traveling there very soon.

Amalfi Coast

One of the top places on my list is the Amalfi Coast. It is located in the Province of Salerno or southern Italy. It is famous for its sophisticated glamour, secret beaches, shady groves, and breathtaking views. The Amalfi Coast drive is one of the world’s most famous, and with good reason. It looks like it was plucked right out of a fairy tale. A day spent exploring the many towns and villages along the rugged coast is a highlight for most visitors. One of the really cool things you can do in the Amalfi Coast is do a private guided tour of Pompeii. The3 city of Pompeii is so incredible and I would love to be able to see it in person instead of just reading about it in history books. Another thing to do is to hike the Path of the Gods. The Path of the Gods is a clifftop trail above the Amalfi Coast. Along the hike are beautiful views of the sea and coastal towns below. If you want the best views of the Amalfi Coast then you go to the heights of Ravello. This town is found on the top of the mountains in between Amalfi and Maiori. I want to lay on the beach and admire all of the cute little houses along the mountain sides and dream of what it would be like to live here. One of the most popular destinations on the coast is the Island of Capri. It is known for its gorgeous landscapes, beautiful beaches, and superb mountain views. I would also love more than anything to take a boat ride along the coast. The waters are so blue that I want to be able to see for myself. I would be able to see the coast as a whole, and I think it would be one of the most beautiful things to experience.
